Rules and Martial Arts

QUICK NOTES…Generally speaking, most people do not like rules. As a society American’s like our freedom and to be able to do what we want when we want. The mere suggestion that an individual is ‘required’ to do something can cause the hair on the back of some people’s neck to stand up.

It actually can seem counter productive when we look at it, but in the moment individual independence is sometimes a barrier to common sense. All though there are some nonsensical rules out there, for the most part they were put in place to keep make things in our lives work a little smoother. The ability to understand the need and to follow rules is an important skill for success in school, the workplace, and for life in general.

Martial arts foster’s the concepts of courtesy, self-control, and respect in students. These are roadmaps that can help develop a strong personal ethical code which can appreciate and easily function within society. Taking the time to build character at an early age is an important step in personal growth.
