What is Creative Martial Arts?

The concept of adding creative moves to elements of traditional martial arts is sometimes referred to as “tricking” or “tumbling for martial arts”, but is less intense than extreme martial arts.  Creative interpretation are the focus of this sport. Open hand and weapons choreography are often accompanied by dramatic dance or programmatic music. The goal is to command the attention of the audience without the use of extreme tumbling techniques.

This form of innovative martial arts is taught all over the world. Many of the moves appear more acrobatic and complex than they are. These stunning movements attain the goal of capturing the crowd, improving physical agility, balance, strength, coordination, and endurance, as well as performing an artistic display of talent.

PLEASE NOTE: Enrollment in traditional classes at Omaha Blue Waves Martial Arts are required prior to taking Creative Classes!

CREATIVE MARTIAL ARTS

Saturday: 9:00 AM – 9:30 AM

ROTATIONAL WEAPONS

Tuesday: 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM

This is a space limited class open to intermediate students and above at Omaha Blue Waves. It is considered an  introductory class to traditional martial arts weapons. Students are given the opportunity to learn basic weapons patterns and use from various martial arts styles. Our rotational weapons classes include:

  • Bo (Staffs) – Staff weapons have been used in almost every culture. Our classes focus on staff use primarily in Korean arts, but students have the opportunity to explore the differences of weapon use between cultures and geographical locations.
  • Cane – The cane is taught from a Hapkido use perspective. Students are given the opportunity to develop basic self defense skills in this weapon and to learn basic use patterns.
  • Tonfa – This impact weapon is the forerunner of the modern PR-24 and was originally developed as a farm implement. Students are taught a basic pattern and rudimentary use of the weapon.
  • Knife/Edged weapons – Are the most commonly used of all weapons. Students are introduced to defense and use concepts for edged weapons (utilizing safe rubber or wooden replicas) as they are taught in Korean and Indonesian martial art styles.

I got picked on a lot in school. By sheer, dumb, luck... I happened onto these people. My parents had no idea what to look for, just that these guys were in the area doing martial arts and that martial arts are supposed to be good for building confidence, self-esteem, fitness... all that. And it was one of the best things that ever happened to me. Save yourself the trouble of shopping around. If you're in the area, go to Omaha Blue Waves.

Our family loves Blue Waves! My daughters take taekwondo classes and tumbling classes. I take taekwondo as well! OBW feels like an extension of our family. Everyone is always willing to help you achieve your goals and encourage you along your journey. I started my black belt journey as a grown adult, and was met with encouragement and excitement by my teachers and classmates. They teach more than martial arts; they are helping me with my mission to raise respectful, responsible and courteous adults. I get to learn along side my kids and be the example I want to be to them.
