Are Martial Arts Classes Healthy?

QUICK NOTES…Martial arts classes can benefit almost anyone. Whether or not you take a class alone, with a friend, or a family member you are sure to get something out of the experience. Martial arts are fun, exciting, and above all healthy. Taking the time to work out 3 to 4 times a week can definitely improve your physical and mental health.

According to the CDC and the Department of Health and Human Services, the average adult to should get at least 150 minutes of exercise each week and children should exercise at least 60 minutes a day. While this sounds like a lot, it doesn’t have to be done all at once. Taking martial arts classes at least 3-4 times a week will get both parent and child a lot closer to their goal.

The U.S. Surgeon General has issued a call to action to reduce obesity as a major health issue. Exercise and eating right are part of the equation to help you and your child maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. A typical martial arts class will burn between 300 hundred to 900 hundred calories depending on the intensity of the activity level.

Of course, before beginning any new physical activity it is recommended that you seek the advice of your medical provider. Barring any unforeseen health issues, martial arts practice is a great way to get started on a healthy lifestyle. Flexibility, strength, and endurance are all enhanced by regular martial arts practice.

Isn’t it time to get started? Put down the remote, get off the couch, and find an activity you love to keep you moving. May we suggest martial arts.
