QUICK NOTES …
Goals can be large or small, but their importance to an intentional life can not be over emphasized.
In martial arts we tend to break down things in to small manageable snippets of information so that our goals do not overwhelm us. While we encourage a black belt mindset from the start, we engrain the need to learn at a measured pace. It is one of the primary reasons that the belt progression system was implemented. Each rank is foundational and allows the student to build new skill sets based on existing ones. These skill sets are easily measured and have specific ‘met points’ built in to determine the practitioners abilities.
The setting of and sharing of goals is an important step in the journey of each martial arts students. We encourage accountability through personal introspection and by sharing our goals with others. Both play an important part in the achievement of goals. By actually fixing goals and measuring our steps to achievement we become invested in the process. When we share those same goals with others we increase the likelihood that we will achieve those goals because we have created both an accountability tool and enlisted a resource in our endeavor.
