TaeKwon-Do

Classes for 5-7 year olds (Tiny Tigers)

Mon/Tue/Wed/Th 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM Tuesday/Thursday 6:00 to 6:45 PM

The Tiny Tiger Taekwon-Do classes help students discover martial arts in a fun and informative way while teaching coordination, self-control, responsibility, and healthy play habits. Although students are able to learn many things at this age the focus is not on belt rank, but on healthy development. To keep children interested, we place achievement stripes on their white belts as they reach minor benchmarks.

Additionally, we have included two age-specific belts in our Tiny Tiger TaeKwon-Do program that been created to help promote self-esteem. Join us to find out just how much fun your children can have while learning something completely new.

During the pre-teen years students begin to develop increased focus and physical coordination. In a martial arts class, these new found abilities mark a change in both the direction and the methodology of teaching. Play is replaced with repetitive skill set practice and an emphasis is placed on cognitive development. Students are expected to learn, understand, and live the tenets of their class including; courtesy, integrity, self-control, perseverance, and indomitable spirit. Martial arts become a vehicle for helping to teach positive values and ethical standards of conduct. At this age, students move into the standardized rank structure of the art which they are taking. All belts are earned through hard work, dedication, and practice. Although time in grade is a minor consideration for promotion, it is the successful accomplishment of skill sets that allow the students to progress in rank. No student is ever promoted without first being invited to and completing a skill level appropriate examination.

Classes for Teens and Adult Students

Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 7:00 to 7:45 PM

Anything worth doing is worth doing well. This is the motto of our teen and adult classes. Although these innovative and enjoyable classes are often taught with a sense of humor, there is always the understanding that achievement comes through hard work. These are our most diverse classes, offering students the opportunity to learn a variety of techniques while still giving them the opportunity to tailor their class experience to their level fitness. The structure of the classes is built around traditional martial arts philosophy, but flavored with a modern twist. Our instructors utilize a number of different tools (including physical skill development, and scientific technique dissection) to engage students personally on a professional level to help them develop to their full potential. Whether your goal is to learn a traditional art, become proficient at self-defense, to find a fun new hobby, or to get healthy this is your place to learn.

Teen and Adults who are on the FAMILY PLAN can join their children or younger siblings in combined Family classes on specific days and times. This does not prohibit Family Plan students from attending age specific classes in lieu of the combined family classes.

TaeKwon-Do is a Korean martial art that began its formation shortly after WWII in Seoul, Korea. In 1945 a number of Kwans (or Gyms) began teaching hybrid martial arts that were influenced by all but lost indigenous Korean arts, as well as, Chinese and Japanese styles. It wasn’t until 1957 that these styles began to become known as TaeKwon-Do (foot, fist, way) at the urging of General Choi, Hong Hi (the father of TaeKwon-Do).

TaeKwon-Do initially formalized under the Korean TaeKwon-Do Association and in 1966 under the International TaeKwon-Do Federation. In the 1973 political issues split the art with creation of the World Taekwondo Federation (later know as simply World Taekwondo). Unlike many ‘sports’ TaeKwon-Do has its own ethical code of ethics that include both tenets and a student oathTaeKwon-Do is the most widely practiced martial art in the world today.

At Omaha Blue Waves Martial Arts we teach traditional TaeKwon-Do, the same style which was originally formalized in 1957. We maintain affiliations with the United States Kido Federation, the International TaeKwon-Do Federation, the International Jung Tong TaeKwon-Do Federation, and the World TaeSool Federation.
